Our Fifth Anniversary: Looking Back, Looking Forward

How many remember HomeRF, @Home, Enron broadband backbones, or the broadband subscriber base so small that we reported annual growth rates of 75%? As we reach the fifth anniversary of publishing our Report on the Broadband Home, we look back at where we were in 2000, where we are now and some of the key directions for the next five years. The journey isn't over. Before the end of this decade, we look forward to real "whole home" networking, personal broadband and lots more.

Fiber Update: "Controlling Your Broadband Destiny"

There is typically a long lag time between conceptualizing how new technologies could be used and their widespread adoption. Fiber to the home has been trumpeted as "the future of broadband access" since the mid-1980s. Current trends in customer applications, fiber system costs and competitive dynamics are finally making the decision of going to fiber a logical one, even for incumbents like Verizon.
